Michael Fassbender Joins The Cast of Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS; Fox Shifts The Release Date

Just last week, we told you that director Ridley Scott‘s forthcoming Alien prequel had evolved into a new film called Prometheus, which is set to star Noomi Rapace (Untitled Sherlock Holmes Sequel). Scott said that while Alien was the jumping off point for the new project, “it evolved into a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative.

Noomi Rapace will be playing the lead role of a scientist named Elizabeth Shaw, and we told you that there are four more big roles in the film and one of those roles is that of Vickers, another female lead role which Angelina Jolie (Salt, The Tourist) and Charlize Theron (Young Adult, Mad Max: Fury Road) are both reportedly circling.

Another role in the film, is that of an android. That role was offered to Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) back when the film was still an Alien Prequel, and apparently the character still exists in Prometheus because Fassbender has just signed on to play the role.

In other Prometheus news… 20th Century Fox has shifted the release date from has shifted from a March 9th, 2012 to June 8th, 2012.

Prometheus starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender is slated to hit theaters on June 8, 2012.
