Matt Smith has already wrapped up shooting for Season 7 of Doctor Who and in his down time he’s signed on as the male lead on Ryan Gosling‘s directorial debut in the film How To Catch a Monster. He joins Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks and Eva Mendes on the project. The fantasy film was also written by Gosling.
Synopsis:
How to Catch a Monster weaves elements of fantasy noir, horror and suspense into a modern day fairytale. Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while Bones, her 18-yr-old son, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.
Sounds fascinating. It’s not official what specific roles Matt Smith or Eva Mendes will play, but Christina Hendricks is playing Billy. She mentioned in an interview with Vulture that her character works in a fetish club to try and make ends meet. Here is how she describes getting the script.
He sent the script over in this cool box with an interesting little key, and cool artwork in it,” recalls Hendricks. “It was like the full package! And then I read the script and was in love with it, so I called him back and said, ‘Yeah, please.’
It looks really original and fantastic. I can’t wait to see where it goes. Right now there’s no release date but it seems like things are really on the move. We’ll keep you posted on the latest news for Ryan Gosling‘s How to Catch a Monster starring Matt Smith, Christina Hendricks and Eva Mendes.
