Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment are bringing aboard Alex Zamm to direct. Zamm is an up-and-comer who is also signed on to direct “Hong Kong Phooey,” the film version of the 1970s Hanna Barbera cartoon. Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove, who previously wrote for “Spin City,” and are currently writing a feature-length CHIPS movie are attached to write the film.
The movie will be a CG/Live Action hybrid, with Marvin being CG and the rest of the world being live action. The producers are talking to a number of stars to voice Marvin, and one name that’s come up is Mike Myers, who is no stranger to voice-over work.
The plot for “Marvin” is as follows:
Marvin comes to Earth to try to destroy Christmas, but his plans are foiled when he gets trapped inside a gift box.
It is slated for release in late 2011
[Rant]
While Marvin was always one of my favorite Looney Tunes characters, I would have preferred a feature length story based on Duck Dodger’s and the 24th and Half Century, which was voted #4 of the 50 Greatest Cartoons of all time by members of the animation field and in 2004, it was retrospectively nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, but apparently that doesn’t mean anything?
Hopefully this will develop into something much cooler than it seems from the description.
