Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Tie-Ins With Thor: The Dark World and – Maybe – More

We have been told over and over to not expect to see any Avengers in ABC‘s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. But TV’s November sweeps are underway, the time when all networks put on their very best for advertisers and future advertisers, and with it comes news of a Thor: The Dark World tie-in with the ABC show, in the form of this episode synopsis released by the network:

COULSON AND HIS TEAM ARE UNDER ATTACK WHEN AN ASGARDIAN RELIC
THUNDERS INTO ABC’S “MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.”

“The Well”– In the aftermath of the events chronicled in the feature film THOR: THE DARK WORLD, Coulson and The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pick up the pieces — one of which threatens to destroy a member of the team, on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19 (8:00-9:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Skye, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz and Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons.

Guest starring Peter MacNicol as Professor Elliot Randolph, Michael Graziadei as Jakob Nystrom, Erin Way as Petra Larsen, Toby Wilson as Neils, Alex Neustaedter as Maynard and Sylvia Brindis as Elena.

“The Well” was written by Monica Owusu-Breen and directed by Jonathan Frakes.

So a great recognizable guest cast and episode director, and a warning that we’d better go see the movie before the November 19 episode. I love the presents that we fans get during November sweeps!

Now we also have a rumor swirling about courtesy of comicbook.com, that there will be another tie-in before the season is over, this time with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which hits theaters April 4, 2014. They claim to have heard “from a source close to the production” that events taking place in the show will “tease and set up the S.H.I.E.L.D. of Captain America: The Winter Soldier”; in reply to which Clark Gregg, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Agent Coulson, obliquely tweeted: “hmmm”.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S EVEN MORE! Tipped off by a reference in a recent Where Monsters Dwell radio broadcast, my ears and eyes perked up when I saw what may have been a head’s up to all Coulson fans in a recent episode of Disney XD‘s Ultimate Spider-Man. I think that the WMD men are right when they say they know the explanation for Coulson’s amazing recovery from the mortal wound he suffered at the hands of Loki in The Avengers. So, now, might most viewers of Ultimate Spider-Man.

That explanation is not unknown to Marvel fans, but the fact that it made it onto Ultimate Spider-Man, which often refers to other Marvel film storylines, may be a clue. Thanks for the near-confirmation, Disney XD! Or was that just a red herring? We. Shall. See.

I’ll wrap this one up with a clip from this week’s new episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., returning after the pesky World Series hiatus:
