Martin Campbell To Keep GREEN LANTERN Realistic And Says No Superman Cameo

Green Lantern director Martin Campbell has revealed that he’s making an effort to keep the film grounded in the real world. According to The HD Room, the Casino Royale helmer is utilizing what he’s labeled a “cheese meter”.

Campbell said,

“I think the thing to do is keep a sense of reality about it”

“Any time we talk about it, we sit in meetings, we have a cheese meter. We talk about decheesing any scene. So it’s quite funny. We’ve all sort of got a sort of cheese meter where that becomes our sort of yardstick in terms of keeping it, giving it some sense of reality.”

The filmmaker added that he believes reality is what most superhero movies lack.

“So often in these superhero movies, nobody seems to get hurt”

“I remember seeing Wolverine, and he picks people up and hurls them 100 yards into a brick wall. These people, apparently unhurt, sort of get up and continue to fight just as strongly as they did before. Well, there’s something absurd about that, in my opinion.”

The director also said that while Aint It Cool News reported back in October that a “pretty reliable” source of theirs had confirmed that Superman would make an appearance in Green Lantern.

However, Campbell has told MTV about the rumor:

“No, that won’t happen.”

The helmer also revealed that other major DC heroes, including Bruce Wayne/Batman, will not show up in his movie.

In other Green Lantern’ish news, a Mexican artist over on deviantArt going by the name Hyzak – who claims to specialize in concept art and KungFu put together a pretty epic Fan made poster for the upcoming film. Check it out below

Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, is slated to hit theaters on June 17, 2011.
