Martin Campbell Says Mark Strong In Talks To Play SINESTRO In GREEN LANTERN

So, if you were anything like me (and most of the internet), you probably figured that Jackie Earl Haley was perfect for the role of Sinestro in the upcoming Green Lantern movie (I also thought Hugo Weaving would’ve been great). Now, MTV caught up with director Martin Campbell while on tour for his latest film, Edge of Darkness, and they spoke a bit about GREEN LANTERN and its current casting rumors.

In regards to Jackie Earle Haley playing the part – Campbell said,

“No, that’s completely wrong…In fact, we’re in negotiations with Mark Strong to play Sinestro…He’s not only a wonderful actor, but he looks like Sinestro. If you look up old pictures of Sinestro, he’s very like him. The Jackie Earle Haley thing, somebody told me about it this morning; I had never heard it before in my life.”

Strong also dropped some names of the other characters that will be making an appearance in the film:

“Well, Kilowog will be…Tomar-Re is in it. Sinestro is in it. Abin Sur is in it. All the origin people. Carol [Ferris], of course, who will be played by Blake Lively. All the main characters are there, and it’s a complex story. The origin story of Green Lantern is complex, probably one of the most complex, which makes it a challenge to get it right.”

Mark Strong played villain, Lord Blackwood in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes and is also playing the villain in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming film, Kick-Ass.
