Marc Guggenheim Writing ‘Jackpot’ Miniseries for Marvel

AmazingSpiderMan549preview3Marvel Comics has announced a forthcoming miniseries featuring the Amazing Spider-Man heroine Jackpot.

The three-issue Amazing Spider-Man Presents: Jackpot, to be penned by TV and comics writer Marc Guggenheim (Young X-Men, Brothers and Sisters) and drawn by Adriana Melo (Birds of Prey, Ms Marvel), was announced at the Mondo Marvel panel at Toronto’s Fan Expo.

The government trained Jackpot – otherwise known as Sara Ehret – made her debut during the ‘One More Day’ storyline in Amazing Spider-Man in 2008. She was taught the importance of responsibility after retiring and seeing her struggling replacement killed in action.

“[Jackpot] uncovers a criminal conspiracy involving the black market organ sales of a supervillain,” Guggenheim told Comic Book Resources. “A supervillain is behind the sales, and the actual organs belong to another supervillain.

“The story germinated from trying to come up with an interesting mcguffin. From there I thought, ‘What if somebody is selling off the body parts of a supervillain?’

“One of the advantages of writing a new character like Jackpot is that there isn’t a status quo to maintain. So all bets are off. You can craft a story where anything is possible.

“She could end up a paraplegic at the end of the series, for all you know. So I’m having a lot of fun pushing the boundaries of the tone.”

Amazing Spider-Man Presents: Jackpot will debut in January.
