Just last week, we brought you the official plot synopsis for director Zack Snyder‘s (300, Watchmen) forthcoming Superman reboot, Man of Steel. Now, thanks to a sly photographer who grabbed some images on the set of the film, we get to see Henry Cavill in the new Superman suit, and Antje Traue in her all-black duds as Faora. Check them out below!
The first image below shows what some think to be Michael Shannon in a motion capture suit, leading to speculation that Shannon’s General Zod will be a partly CGI creation.
The next image shows a man on the set in a motion capture suit, seemingly identical to the one worn above, and is clearly not Michael Shannon.
The next image is our first look at Antje Traue in her Faora costume, with the man in the mocap suit just behind her.
The image below is taken from the back of Faora (Antje Traue) and the man in the mocap suit. You can clearly see Superman (Henry Cavill) approaching them in the background.
If you didn’t notice in the image above, I wanted to point out that there is a very tall tracking pole mounted to the mocap actor’s headpiece. Futher, notice that Henry Cavill is looking up towards the top of that pole. That being said, I don’t think this is a CGI Zod… unless Snyder’s decided to make him 9 or 10 feet tall (which I doubt).
The next image (below) is pretty similar to the one above, it just shows a full frontal view of Cavill’s Superman suit.
[The Shakedown]
I just wanted to point out the motion capture actor and the tracking pole specifically because a ton of people are speculating that this is a CGI General Zod, I’ve seen Metallo mentioned, or a possible escapee from the Phantom Zone as well, and all three are somewhat possible. I’m going to go on record right now and say that it’s none of the above. I believe it’s going to be Brainiac.
Note: I have no inside information, it’s just a hunch.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
Thanks to the Superman: Man of Steel (2013) Facebook page and photographer Jim Martens for the photos. They’re doing a Super (see what I did there?) job of covering everything from the set.
Synopsis:
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.
Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as The Daily Planet’s editor-in-chief, Perry White, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent. Michael Shannon as the villainous General Zod, Antje Traue as Zod’s evil partner, Faora, Julia Ormond as Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, and Russell Crowe as Superman’s father, Jor-El.
Man of Steel is slated to hit theaters on June 14th, 2013.
