As SciFiMafia reported to you in January, director Tim Burton and Disney may be teaming up once again. This project involves a film re-take on the animated 1959 “Sleeping Beauty” from the villainess Maleficent’s viewpoint. News on this project is that “Alice in Wonderland” screenwriter Linda Woolverton will be joining Burton to write for this project.
While it has not yet been confirmed that Burton is officially attached to “Maleficent”, Woolverton has a notable history with Disney with 1991’s “Beauty and the Beast” and 1994’s “The Lion King” on her resume. Burton has several other projects potentially courting for his attention this year, including “Dark Shadows”, “The Addams Family”, and another stop motion picture, “Frankenweenie”.
The Mistress of All Evil is known for her ability to transform herself into other guises (including a frightening black and purple scaled dragon). Maleficent has made a comeback with being the evil force behind the “Kingdom Hearts” video games.
