Losties Rejoice as Damon Lindelof Returns to TV

Most fans of Lost have loved both of the movies that Lost co-showrunner Damon Lindelof has been involved with – Cowboys and Aliens and Star Trek – and are waiting with bated breath for Prometheus this weekend and the Star Trek sequel next May, as well as the mysterious 1952 about which we know basically nothing. But what we’d REALLY love is to be able to watch new work from him on a weekly basis.

Happily, those dreams will reportedly be coming true. Deadline is reporting that Lindelof is finalizing a three-year overall deal with Warner Bros. TV, where Lost co-creator and frequent collaborator J.J. Abrams produces his TV series (Fringe, Person of Interest). Better still, Lindelof confirmed that he is planning on writing, not just producing: “(A)t this point I still look at myself as a writer … This (deal) is about me creating my next show.”

He is mysterious about what type of show he might be writing.  Hehe. Damon Lindelof, mysterious about what he is writing. Imagine. “I think certainly film-wise, I’m spaced out, I think I’ve got the robot-spaceship future bug out of my system [emphasis added].” And although he claims to have no interest in writing another series with “wackadoo mythology” – his words, by the way; I loved the mythology of Lost – he does say that he wants to be able to do a cable series. One of the things cable series are currently notable for are serial-type series. The kind you need to watch every week to be able to follow. YES PLEASE.

But here’s the best quote of all: “What I love about television is character-based storytelling, and I want to continue to explore a fantastical way of doing it where characters live in a world that is a little skewed.” YES YES PLEASE YES.

I am doing my best to keep my excitement in check but COME ON, Damon Lindelof writing a TV series for cable about characters who live in a world that is a little skewed. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WHEN?!! Along with the renewal of Fringe for 13 more episodes, this is the best news for TV so far this year.

We will OBVIOUSLY keep you posted.
