Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn, Sin City, Machete) is producing the next Predator film called Predators, which is being directed by Nimrod Antal (Vacancy, Armored). Though Rodriguez has talked about the film several times, Antal hasn’t said too much about PREDATORS… until now. In a recent interview Antal talked about AVP, the original Predator movie, casting Adrien Brody and a bit more.
Antal said:
So far, it’s been great, and I think that the fans who may have been underwhelmed by the last two AVP films, I think they’re in for a very pleasant surprise.
I think we recognize that the original film was as good as it was because of the practical, because it was a guy in a suit, because it was the jungle, so we stay true to that. We were in Hawaii for a month in the jungle, so there’s going to be some pretty impressive locations.
Let me tell you, I was so much of a fan that I stood in line when I was 14 and I had the poster on my wall. I was a huge fan. Again, it was a challenge in finding a balance. I think when we cast Adrien, there were a lot of people going, ‘What?’ but at the same time, if we cast a Vin Diesel in that role or if we cast anyone who is Arnold-esque, we would have been attacked for doing that. So we decided early on to go in a very different direction as far as the casting process, but it turned out fantastic. He plays a mercenary in the film and if you look at the guys in Iraq and Afghanistan today, they’re not ‘yolked-out’ Schwarzenegger-looking guys. They’re all very wiry and thin guys, and I think it’s going to play well.
On the topic of the Governator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) making an appearance in his PREDATORS film, he said:
Time will tell. We’ll see, but we are trying to stay with the original as far as the monster and the atmosphere and the tone of the film, but we are trying to do something new and contemporary and feels fresh.
Now, the fine folks over at iheartchaos.com had been tipped off to the existence of a script for Rodriguez’s Predators (by Mike Finch and Alex Litvak) in pdf form. So, on the off chance that they get a C&D from the studio to take it down before we do, I grabbed a copy to host here that you can download for your own reading pleasure.
Just right click the link below and “Save As” to grab your own copy before it’s gone! (Neither iheartchaos or we here at SciFiMafia know how legit this script is, or if it does happen to be legitimate – how many re-writes may have been done since this particular draft was written)
PREDATORS by Mike Finch and Alex Litvak
Predators stars Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins, and Alice Braga, who are kidnapped and whisked away to the Predator home planet where they are hunted.
20th Century Fox has scheduled the film for release on July 7, 2010.
