Just last week, we brought you the news that Viggo Mortensen (A Dangerous Method) was in talks with Universal Pictures to star as The Huntsman in director Rupert Sanders‘ (The Low Dweller) forthcoming take on the fairy tale, Snow White for Universal Pictures . The film is entitled Snow White and the Huntsman, and was written by Evan Daugherty (Rusty Forkblade, Shrapnel).
We also told you that despite previous statements that the studio was looking for a fresh face to play Snow White, Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) had joined the list of actresses that the studio is interested in for the female lead, along with Riley Keough (The Runaways, Mad Max: Fury Road), Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), Alicia Vikander (Beloved) and Emily Browning (Sucker Punch).
Now, THR reports that the studio has offered Kristen Stewart the role, and while negotiations are still ongoing and the deal is nowhere near being finalized, both parties are eager to make it happen.
The story offers a different take on the classic fairy tale, having Snow White banished by the evil queen (Charlize Theron), and forming a bond with the man who was sent to kill her, The Huntsman (Viggo Mortensen). The Huntsman instead becomes her mentor, teaching her how to fight and defend herself.
[The Shakedown]
I guess we can look forward to a fidgety Snow White, riddled with nervous tics, who blinks incessantly and regularly bites her bottom lip.
Snow White and the Huntsman is slated to hit theaters on December 21st, 2012.
