Star Trek screenwriters, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have spoken in the past about the possibility of the sequel featuring multiple villains, though they haven’t made any specific comments about who would or would not be in consideration as those villains for the follow-up to the 2009 blockbuster.
Now, according to a Star Trek insider – Badass Digest reports that Trek 2 will be centered on a classic villain from the original 1966 Star Trek TV series.
Their source states,
“It’s definitely a character that will make fans of (the original series) excited. Think along the lines of Harry Mudd or Trelane or Gary Mitchell or the Talosians or the Horta. Actually it’s one of those that I named.”
Their source didn’t get any more specific than that, but Devin at Badass Digest thinks that Gary Mitchell has the best odds at becoming the sequel’s villain.

Of course, from a super-secret source means that it’s just a rumor (for now), besides…I’m still pulling for John de Lancie to reprise his role as Q from TNG for J.J. Abrams‘ Trek films. He could easily play it as an ancestor of TNG’s Q (for continuity sake).
Star Trek 2 stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg and John Cho, The film is slated to hit theaters on June 29th, 2012.
