Keanu Reeves Says the Bill & Ted 3 Script Is Almost Finished

A little over a year ago, we brought you word that Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) was hinting that he’d like to reprise his role as “Ted” Theodore Logan for a third, most excellent adventure with his buddy, Bill S. Preston, Esquire (Alex Winter). At the time Reeves said that they were trying to get part 3 greenlit and when he was asked if he was joking or not, the actor said “I’m not”.

I think most people (including myself) brushed it off as a bit of a pipe dream, due to collective nostalgia for two of the best sci-fi/time travel comedy films that have ever graced the screen, and simply thought it was cool that Reeves even acknowledged those two fun, fan favorite films from his early days, especially considering the huge career he’s had since then.

While recently speaking with MTV about his latest film Henry’s Crime, the actor was steered off-course to speak about the third Bill & Ted installment. Reeves revealed that not only is the project in motion but, the writers should be about six weeks away from turning in a draft of the script and the plot of Bill & Ted 3 will tie into the end of Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey.

Reeves said,

“I believe the writers are six weeks away from a draft. No pressure, guys! When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn’t happened. So they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back.”

Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, the original writers of both Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey are writing the script for the third film as well.
