Syfy was smart to schedule Primeval: New World for summer; it’s a fun summer watch. The dinos are pretty cool looking, and mostly nicely ferocious. If you missed last week’s premiere, here’s the synopsis, with my notations in parentheses:
Evan Cross (played by Niall Matter, Zane on Eureka), a business mogul, uses his company’s resources to research random anomalies (if you’re not familiar with the original series, “anomalies” look like big sparkly portals and at this point in the series, no one knows for sure what they are). When bodies and missing people start increasing, a single-manned government agency code-named “Project MAGNET”, and a member of Predator Control (in the U.S. it would be “Animal Control” – Primeval: New World is a Canadian show), join the group. Connor Temple (yes, Andrew Lee Potts, Connor from the original Primeval series, guest stars) tries to warn Evan Cross about the dangers of the anomalies, but Cross has his own reasons for searching.
Here’s his reason:
It’s an Albertosaurus, which is slightly smaller than a T. Rex, and it came through an anomaly and ate his wife.
So, this is a new group, just learning that there is dinosaur involvement, yet not deterred from their investigations. The new episode’s dino, by the way, is based on an actual dino, as most in this series are. You don’t usually need to make up creatures when you have a whole host of dinosaurs from which to choose as your monster of the week.
The other thing you’ll want to know is that if you hear people referring to “First Nations” territory, here in the states it would be considered “Native American” territory.
Okay, now you’re ready to check out this clip and the TV spot for the second episode, which airs Saturday. The clip is very Jaws-like, as you’ll see, right down to the lack of an actual shot of the creature. But don’t worry, you’ll see it in the TV spot:
