Judge Dredd Reboot Scores a Bloody and Violent R-Rating

Back in February, we brought you some gruesome images from the Pete Travis (Vantage Point) directed Judge Dredd reboot entitled DREDD, which is based on the 2000AD comic series, with a screenplay written by Alex Garland (28 Days Later) and stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby and Lena Heady.

Now, we have word that Dredd has scored itself an R-Rating from the MPAA for strong & bloody violence, language, drug use & some sexual content. Let’s just hope that the film’s better than the 1995 version, which was also rated R, but only for “continuous violent action”.

Synopsis:

“DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.”

DREDD is slated to hit theaters on September 21st, 2012.
