Joss Whedon Teams With Warren Ellis on Next Web Project… and There Won’t Be Singing Involved

Having garnered much attention to the power of new media with Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, a musical webseries done during the writers-strike, fans and critics alike have been watching for Joss Whedon’s next web project. Though most fans are hoping for a sequel to Dr. Horrible, what’s next for The Avengers director will not involve song and dance.

According to EW, Whedon has teamed up with acclaimed writer Warren Ellis on a web project called Wastelanders. This project has actually been in the works since before Whedon began work directing The Avengers and Whedon is excited to get back to it:

”I really want to make something tiny. You know, get back on the Internet.  Just something really home-baked.”

Wastelanders is described as an “end-of-the-world” project. Whedon goes into more detail on how this will not be like Dr. Horrible:

”I’ll say this about it…there ain’t no singing. It’s a dark piece, and I’m just like, ‘Gosh, well, if I’m going to finance this and put it together, it’s kind of dangerous.’ It’s not going to have a soundtrack album, it’s not going to have all these revenue streams. It’s going to be something that I put out there because I feel like I have to, and I don’t have to rely on anybody else to let me.”

Stay tuned to SciFi Mafia for more on Wastelanders as it develops!
