During a press conference for Public Enemies Johnny Depp was asked about a couple of his future projects. He first spoke about Dark Shadows where he is set to play Barnabas Collins and then Alice in Wonderland where he plays the Mad Hatter,
Johnny Depp has done his part to ease the minds of “Dark Shadows” fans everywhere by confirming that Tim Burton’s big-screen adaptation of the long-running show is still very much on track.
Depp had this to say about ‘Dark Shadows’;
‘Dark Shadows’ is happening. Tim is working on ‘Alice in Wonderland’ which is obviously quite a large piece of work there. So when Tim is done with ‘Alice’ and we get the script, which is very, very close, in order we’ll probably attack it next year. It’s exciting, very exciting. It’s like a lifelong dream for me. I loved the show when I was a kid. I was obsessed with Barnabas Collins. I have photographs of me holding Barnabas Collins posters when I was five or six. I’m very excited to do it.”
Speaking of Alice in Wonderland and The Mad Hatter, Depp said;
“Well, the Hatter was awfully fun, you know? After doing something like a John Dillinger, it evolves where it’s so overstrained because of the responsibility you have to that guy, that the Mad Hatter was like being fired out of a cannon. The Hatter was great fun, and it’s one of things where you’re just amazed you weren’t fired, you know? [laughs]”
Depp also added the follwing about The Mad Hatter’s look;
“All I’ve seen is bits and pieces but what I imagined it to look like is is how I feel I thought he should look, which is the first reason I was surprised I didn’t get fired.”
