John Malkovich Replacing John C. Reilly In Feature Film Adaptation Of Warren Ellis’ RED

Well, it appears that 2010 is set to be the year for John Malkovich. Variety is reporting that John Malkovich has replaced John C. Reilly in Summit Entertainment’s adaptation of the Wildstorm/DC miniseries, Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner’s RED. Malkovich is joining an all-star cast that includes the likes of Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, Julian McMahon, Ernest Borgnine, Richard Dreyfuss, Brian Cox and James Remar. The film is being directed by Robert Schwentke (Lie To Me, The Time Traveler’s Wife)

In RED, a former black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses is now living a quiet life. That is, until the day a hi-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his secret identity compromised and his love interest in danger, Frank must reassemble his old team to figure out who is out to get them.

The film will start shooting in Toronto and Louisiana this month for a fall release. Malkovich’s casting would not interfere with him playing the Vulture in Spider-Man 4.
