If Sam Mendes’ adaptation of Preacher ever hits the screen, John Cusack is apparently interested in a lead role.

In an recent interview, John Cusack described a comic book movie floating around Hollywood that he’s trying to get involved with—and the description sounds an awful lot like a certain story about an ex-Preacher, his trigger-happy girlfriend and a vampire who set out to teach God a lesson.

“It’s a vampire and a killer, and they’re on the road, and it’s this really strange story,” said Cusack.

Asked whether it was “Preacher” he was thinking of, Cusack said,

“I think it might have been ‘Preacher,'” and added that he was “trying to” get involved with the long-in-development project.

The actor, who’s appearing in theaters next weekend in the disaster flick “2012,” said he’s most interested one of the two leads,

“either the vampire or the priest. One of those two guys,” he said.

PREACHER was created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon. In short, the comic is about a preacher, his girlfriend, and a vampire who travel around the United States to find God. The preacher was possessed by a thing called Genesis which rivals the powers of God himself. God has the answers about preacher’s powers that he so desperately needs.

Screenwriter John August was tapped in January to write the “Preacher” script.
