Contrary to what sources close to model/ actress Zoe Aggeliki (R.I.P.D., Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters) said last week, Aggeliki did not win the role of Johanna Mason for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Though Aggeliki was supposedly “the one in the most serious talks” for the crucial role of the ax-wielding previous winner of the Hunger Games, she ultimately was not offered the part.
THR reports that Jena Malone (Hatfields & McCoys, Sucker Punch), who was said to be in the running for the role along with Aggeliki and Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre, Alice in Wonderland), is in negotiations for the part of Johanna Mason. The character also plays a large part in the third book of the trilogy, Mockingjay. Catching Fire is due to begin filming in late September under helmer Francis Lawrence.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is slated to hit theaters on November 22nd, 2013.
