Earlier this month, we brought you the news about actress Rebecca Hall (The Town, Lay the Favorite) joining the cast of director Shane Black‘s forthcoming installment of Marvel Studios‘ wildly successful Iron Man franchise, opposite Robert Downey Jr., Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley.

Now, according to Deadline, James Badge Dale (World War Z) has joined the cast of Iron Man 3 as a villain named Eric Savin, a character from Marvel Comics who was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army that stepped on a landmine, and after being dead for 2.3 minutes is resurrected as the cyborg Coldblood.

In the Extremis story arc penned by Warren Ellis, which is said to be the template for the third film, the Extremis nanobots are first used by terrorists and later by Stark to enhance his Iron Man suit and give him additional powers and control over the suit.

While there is no confirmation that Badge Dale’s character will become Coldblood in the film, his cyborg transformation seems to be easily adaptable to the nano-tech of the Extremis storyline.

Iron Man 3 is slated to hit theaters on May 3rd, 2013.
