Jon Favreau‘s Iron Man 2 blasted through it’s 12:01 a.m. Friday performances, earning an estimated $7.5 million from more than 2,500 locations. Throughout the rest of the weekend, Iron Man 2 will play in more than 4,000 domestic theaters and is expected to ring up $140 million or more through Sunday.

Hundreds of venues sold out in advance of the midnight performances, with online-ticketing services Fandango and MovieTickets reporting sellouts in many locations for other showtimes throughout the weekend.
