Introducing PARANORMAN, The Ghoul Whisperer

We may be reaching a saturation point with zombies, but how would you like a taste of animated zombies? LAIKA, the animation studio that brought Neil Gaiman’s Coraline to animated life, is bringing zombies to life in a different light than we’re used to with their new family horror feature film, ParaNorman.

This stop-motion animation film is “about a young boy who can see the dead and must protect his town from a zombie invasion.” ParaNorman makes zombies family-friendly with a mixture of comedy and stop-motion-style thrills. Check out the new UK trailer for ParaNorman below!

Synopsis:

In the comedy thriller, a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst of all, moronic grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.

The film is directed by the team of Chris Butler (Art Director on Corpse Bride, Coraline) and Sam Fell (The Tale of Despereaux, Flushed Away). ParaNorman stars the voices of Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In, The Road) as Norman, Casey Affleck (Paradise Lost), Tempestt Bledsoe (The Cosby Show), Jeff Garlin (Wall-E), John Goodman (Monsters, Inc), Bernard Hill (Lord of the Rings), Anna Kendrick (Twilight), Leslie Mann (Knocked Up), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (How To Train Your Dragon) and Elaine Stritch (30 Rock).

ParaNorman is slated to hit theaters August 17, 2012.
