IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Recap of Warehouse 13 (Sn 1, Ep 7)

Warehouse 13 “Implosion” #107 (Season 1, Episode 7)

Original airdate: August 18, 2009

Summary:

w13-implosion-swordPete and Myka head to back to familiar territory to Washington D.C. to intercept and swap out an ancient Japanese sword artifact, but someone beat them to the punch and tosses an implosion grenade to cover their tracks!  Our agents have competition in the artifact hunting department.  Just who are they up against and what does this sword do?

Points to Know:

  • The samurai sword artifact gives the wielder the power of invisibility.  It was said to have been so perfectly made that even light moves aside from its blade.
  • w13-implosion-jamesThe competition is Artie’s antacid-eating, old partner, James MacPhereson who has different ideas on how the world can change with artifacts like the sword.  A security officer at the Japanese embassy had been in cahoots with James until he quite literally lost his head.
  • Artie recovers the sword… by being stabbed with it. Both he and the sword are fine.  (Really bad aim on the part of James or have we been cheesed?)
  • James is also responsible with digging out and exposing Artie’s past (real name was Arthur Weisfeld) as a suspect in acts of treason against the United States.  Pete and Myka can hardly believe it, but it is true.
  • In this ep, Pete and Myka really bump against their former boss in the Secret Service, but they cannot divulge anything about the case.
  • Pete and Myka don’t want to be ‘redshirts’ to Artie.  They need Artie to change the way he treats them in order for them to function as a team.  Artie was trying to protect them by keeping them in the dark, but Pete and Myka refuse for this to continue.  James’ goal was to shake up Artie and the Warehouse 13 team.  He has done so.

Commentary:

  • OK, SYFY, are you listening? I am one of these ‘female viewers’ between 18 and 49 and this sibling dynamic between Pete and Myka is getting freaking annoying as all heck!
  • The opening scene where Pete is messing around with the replica sword is actually kind of offensive!  If he were more corny or did a better impression that would have carried off the scene, but I was like “say what?”.
  • Warehouse 13, don’t disappoint me now! Come on! Get with it!
