IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Recap of Eureka (Sn 3 FINALE, Ep 18)

Eureka “What Goes Around, Comes Around” (Season 3 FINALE, Episode 18) #318

Original US airdate: September 18, 2009

Summary:

eureka sn3finale fargo stucktowallIn this season finale, Eureka delivers an action-packed and complex episode with many plotlines moving forward.

GD begins tests with their new super collider to prove the existence of dark energy, but something goes wrong and the whole thing spins apart.  Luckily no one was hurt, but strange electro-magnetic fields have been popping up all over town, causing incidents as minor as Fargo getting stuck to the ceiling/ wall because of the high concentration of iron in his body to as major as the ignition of the surface of the diving pool at Telsa High.  Carter is on the case even with complications to his life on the periphery:

  • Tess has been offered a job in Australia after Allison comes back from maternity leave.  She started this relationship with Carter all the while knowing that she would most likely be leaving. This causes tension between the two.
  • Zoe finds out that she has been accepted to early admission to Harvard’s pre-med program that starts next semester.  This is earlier than Carter was prepared to deal with Zoe leaving for college.

eureka sn3finale elemag fieldsZoe’s boyfriend is distraught over Zoe’s college news and he tries to prove himself by attempting to solve a global ending event that will be caused by an asteroid scheduled to hit the earth in 2,000 years.  His project interfered with the super collider experiment and caused a new North pole to be formed right there in Eureka, which accelerates the timeline of world destruction.

The Eureka team can solve the electromagnetic pole problem with the use of Pilar’s project to help Carter get to Lucas’ magnetic amplifier to reverse the charge and cancel out the effects of the new North pole.  I agree with Carter- he needs a vacation after this!

Points to Know:

  • It was Kim 2.0’s data that confirmed the asteroid Nemesis’ trajectory.
  • Fargo is freaked by the Nemesis news and draws up a bucket list to do with his girlfriend, Julia (who apparently is not in jail for trying to Single-White-Female Jo’s life).
  • Larry is working on a femmebot project.  Nuff said!
  • Pilar’s project using subcutaneous sensors to control movement of another human body is creepy to say the least!
  • Martha, a cylon-like, small stealth aircraft that Larry had tampered with earlier, makes a reappearance in this ep.  The Eureka team uses Martha to deliver a positron payload into the field.  Carter must reverse the charge of the amplifier before Martha gets there.
  • It was Henry who wrote the letter of recommendation for Zoe’s application to Harvard. His word has serious pull!
  • eureka sn3finale zoe lucas caughtZoe decides to ‘be with’ Lucas before they leave for college.  Even though they won’t be going to the same school (Zoe to Harvard, Lucas to MIT), they will still have that bond to share.  Her dad catches them before they do anything, but time passes before she leaves for college at the end of the ep.  We can assume that this did happen.
  • Tess didn’t tell Carter about the job offer because she didn’t know what they would have between them.  Tess is going to take that job in Australia to oversee the building of a radio telescope array and wants him to come with her.  Carter and Tess decide to try to stay together and visit each other whenever they can.

Commentary:

  • I think the science behind this one is a bit fuzzy.  If the electromagnetic fields are strong enough to mess up how a person can control their own body, wouldn’t that essentially kill them?  Breathing is a bodily function also controlled by electrical impulses from the brain, right?  And how do the signals from Pilar’s project get through to control Carter’s body when Zane can’t even contact GD?
  • Zoe going off to college so soon took me by surprise.  She is my fave character of this entire series and this season made me like her that much more.  Why, oh why, are you sending her away, writers? :sniffle:  Will we get to see any of Zoe at all next season?
  • eureka sn3finale carter tess kissAnother person I grew fond of this season is Tess and her relationship with Carter is literally the cutest love on TV.  Australia is really Eastwick since Jaime Ray Newman is getting her witch on in ABC’s new show “Eastwick”.  I’m sad that she’s leaving the show, too, but I’m crossing my fingers that Tess will reappear when she’s not filming “Eastwick”.
  • For a second there at the end, I thought even Jo might leave Carter.  It was a sweet ending of the episode when Carter opens the special delivery envelope to find plane tickets to Australia from Tess. He gets a call from Allison at the end and you know that there are new possibilities ahead for all in Eureka- new days for ground-breaking scientific discoveries and saving the world while doing it!
  • I had to include this last pic of Zane doing diagnostics on the super collider.  So very “Minority Report” in the tech, right?
