Eureka “It’s Not Easy Being Green” (Season 3, Episode 12)
Original airdate: July 31, 2009
Summary:
Allison and Tess need Carter’s help retrieving the globidium in town to power the laser telescope to get a good look at what’s headed towards Eureka. Globidium is an artificially made nuclear element that is much safer than plutonium with ten times the output. Carter cleverly gets Tess to acknowledge that there is an alien signal. When the globidium all over town goes missing, Carter and the Eureka team investigate who and why. A pet project of Global’s bio-chemist ‘Cleaner’ goes AWOL and consumes anything with a radiation signature. Carter gets a strike against the green blob with a desiccant-centered explosive, radioactive bowling ball.
Points to Know:
- Lexi doesn’t want to tie Duncan down with the baby situation, but Duncan won’t let her make that decision for him. They do get back together by the end of the ep & are moving away from Eureka.
- Global Dynamics’ archrival in the bowling tournament is Area 51. Little green men jokes are abundant, especially after a prank turns the Eureka bowling team’s skin green!
- There was not enough globidium to power the telescope so they cannot see what is heading straight for Eureka. General Mansfield orders GD to be prepared for the worst.
- We are all exposed to 0.2 RAM (Radiation Attenuation Measurement) of radiation each year, which means that to some degree, we are all radioactive.
Commentary:
- Henry points out to Carter that Tess gets ‘under his skin’.
- Tess asks about Allison and Carter’s relationship. Allison insists that they are just friends.
- This ep is full of references to other films- “The Hulk”, “Bring It On”, “300”, and the classic “Aliens” sequence when Carter is hunting Spot, the blob that eats radiation, are corny-funny, but amusing nonetheless. Plus, Fargo said “What the frak?”
Best Moments:
Tess: “I’m sorry, I can’t share details.”
Carter to Tess: “You and I shared an alternate universe, does that not mean anything to you?”
*
Fargo (addressing the bowling team, after they have been turned green): “We need to get even… Fargo smash!” :waves fists in air:
*
Tess (about the bowling team being turned green): “That’s actually a pretty color”
Carter: “Yeah, if you’re a muppet.”

Eureka “If you build it…” (Season 3, Episode 13)
Original airdate: August 7, 2009
(Syfy doesn’t have this ep on their Syfy Rewind yet so these screen caps are of a lesser quality)
Summary:
Something is making sleep-walking teenagers build something out of junk out in the middle of the woods. It really hits home when Carter and Jo see that Zoe and Zane are among the sleep-walking tech elves.
Meanwhile, the signal that they are tracking is getting stronger. Tess and Allison differ on how to receive whatever is coming their way- Tess welcomes the opportunity to meet potential alien life, while Allison is under orders to defend the planet.
Carter and the Eureka team discover that the alien signal piggybacked on the newly implemented Smart Asphalt’s technology to induce a collective effort to build an energy field to ‘catch’ whatever is coming through the high velocity space jump. What comes through is a ship… that is one of ours!
Points to Know:
- Smart Asphalt is the network in the roads that interacts with cars to allow for automated driving.
- Fargo dumps his car with AI, Tabitha, for one like Jo’s and learns from his mistake of taking ‘Tabby’ for granted when he is on the receiving end of her wrath. Jo points out what Fargo did wrong in his relationship with Tabby.
- This ship is one of Henry’s projects from his past.
Commentary:
- Wow, they were not at all shy about Subaru’s sponsorship! Deputy Jo Lupo is now driving a shiny new Subaru Impreza WRX.
- Tess and Carter are playful in their relationship. It is adorable to watch them!
- Fargo is getting a lot more screen time in these last few episodes. He is good comic relief, but I hope they are going somewhere with him.
- Larry’s “I’m too pretty to die” when he and Fargo are trapped in Tabby’s trunk sent me sprawling on the floor with laughter.
Best Moments:
If you tuned in without knowing the context of this conversation, you’d think this was a euphemism.
Jo to Fargo about Tabby: “So when was the last time you rotated her tires, or… I don’t know… detailed her dash? Or gave her a good buffing?”
