Image Comics will release a new series featuring Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin’s Tank Girl character later this year.
The heroine has previously appeared in Judge Dredd Megazine, a series from IDW Publishing and an ill-fated Hollywood movie. Following a lengthy hiatus, the character will return this December in Tank Girl: Dark Nuggets, written by Martin and drawn by newcomer Rufus Dayglo.
“We’ve always been intrigued by the concept of Image Comics and it seems a very natural, organic step to see if we could do some Tank Girl with them,” Martin told Newsarama. “They were very open to our ideas and approach, which is a rare thing when you look at how we work and what we produce.”
Martin and Dayglo, who have previously worked together on Tank Girl: The Royal Escape for IDW and Tank Girl: Skidmarks from Titan Books, will also produce the series for Image.
“It’s four separate stories, all very dark and nasty in subject matter and execution,” the writer added. “Her friend Barney starts a band while Tank Girl’s getting shot to ribbons; Tank Girl’s friends beat the crap out of her; she revisits her old junior school; and her kangaroo boyfriend Booga takes a trip to the psychiatrist after a harrowing ordeal in a donut shop.”
Tank Girl: Dark Nuggets is scheduled for release in December.
