Hughes Brothers To Direct The Long Awaited AKIRA Live-Action Movie?

Allen and Albert Hughes are reportedly in talks to direct a live-action Akira movie for Warner Bros. The studio is eying the Book of Eli directors to helm the upcoming action film, based on the graphic novel by Katsuhiro Otomo. Iron Man screenwriters Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus penned the script with Eli scribe Gary Whitta. Andrew Lazer has signed to produce alongside Appian Way Productions’ Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson.

Otomo’s novel was first adapted as an animated feature, also titled Akira, in 1998. The film earned $84m at the US box office in less than a month.
