Hugh Jackman may be working with other metals than adamantium for this next picture- he is in talks for the starring role in “Real Steel”, a Dream Works project with Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) at the helm.
“Real Steel” follows the life of an ex-fighter who becomes a boxing promoter when human boxing becomes outlawed and replaced with Robot Boxing. He discovers a trashed robot that seems to have luck on its side and he and his estranged teenaged son mend their relationship as they train this extraordinary robot.
Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis are executive producing. Levy is also functioning in a producer capacity.
John Gatins is working on a re-draft of the script with Levy. “Real Steel” is based on a short story, written by Richard Matheson who also wrote “I Am Legend” and “The Box”. Production should begin this coming May.
