Director J.J. Abrams is in the midst of shooting the highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII. While he’s hard at work eating, sleeping, breathing this franchise, the next set of runners are being positioned to take his baton for the next two movies.

Writer and director of the sci-fi film Looper (starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis), Rian Johnson has already been prepped to take that baton as writer and director for both Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX, reuniting with Looper producer Ram Bergman. This according to Deadline. No official confirmation has come from Disney or Rian Johnson yet. Well, except this tweet, posted without comment, a YouTube excerpt from The Right Stuff, complete with F-bomb.

It would be an understandable sentiment being tasked with two such movies as this.

We’ll be sure and keep you posted on the latest for the Star Wars franchise.
