Hit-Girl Herself, Chloe Moretz Talks About KICK-ASS

Chloë Moretz recently sat down for an interview and spoke a bit about Kick-Ass, her character Hit-Girl and some of her gunplay in the film. Hit-Girl is just your ordinary, run-of-the-mill 11 year old assassin, who dual wields pistols and brandishes a sword to slice and dice drug kingpins for fun. Played by 12 year old Chloë Moretz, she’s a pre-teen assassin who’s been trained by her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage), who is a former cop who wants to bring down a druglord.

When asked about her favorite scene in Kick-Ass she said,

“When I go [to] kill a drug lord to get back at him — I think I kill 30 guys in, like, 30 seconds, in one corridor with two guns. Then I run out [of bullets], pick up another gun and shoot it, throw it at them, jump over a table and throw my legs forward, kicking [a bad guy] … later, I get stuck in a cupboard and have to throw kitchen knives. It’s so fun; it was the coolest thing ever.”

She says about Hit-Girl,

“I’ve been trained since I was a baby to be this crazy assassin girl, What I like about the character is that she’s an assassin, but at the same time she is still just an 11-year-old girl. She doesn’t know any better; it’s just how she was raised.”

Moretz gave some details on her training,

“It was absolutely amazing, and probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, It was four months-plus training. Learning how to roll, how to jump over barriers and land on your shoulder. I actually came home one day, and I had a big bruise all the way down my back!”

About learning how to assemble heavy weaponry and intricate fight scenes for Kick-Ass, Moretz says,

“It was really fun to do. I learned how to take apart a gun, put it back together, clean it, But they’d never let me touch a gun [unless] I checked it first, made sure it was a fake bullet; if it was supposedly clear, I had to check it to [confirm] that it was clear.”

“While I was shooting the movie, even though I thought I knew [all the moves], it was still really hard to do, Because you had to think about acting, and choreography of the scene. So, I’m going to have to be running and jumping and shooting in mid-air, while also thinking about my face and not [counting down the steps] like ‘1…2…3..oh no, I just said it!’ Trying to remember the steps: left foot, then right foot, then jump. That was really confusing.”

Apparently Moretz’ Father is a comic book fan and she spoke a bit about the first time her Dad met Nicolas Cage on set,

“I actually have a really, really hilarious story. My Dad is an Eagle Scout, and he carries a little pocket knife on him all the time. Nic, he likes Red Bull, and he was drinking a Red Bull one day but couldn’t open it. He tried to pop the can, but the little tab fell off.”

“So, my Dad says ‘I can open that for you!’ yanks out his Leatherman and flips it open. He says ‘Here give me the can!’ and [sticks his knife in the top], “Pop! It spews everywhere! It exploded — it was so funny. But Nic is such a nice guy, he took the can and drank it anyway.”

“I was like ‘Wow, Dad! I just want to crawl under a rock and hide right now!’”
