Finally! We’ve known about Eddie Izzard as Grandpa for some time now, and Charity Wakefield as Marilyn, but what of the two lead characters of Bryan Fuller’s reimagining of The Munsters, Mockingbird Lane? Although the series isn’t meant to be a strict remake of The Munsters, if Herman is to look anything like the 1960s version, they’d need a big guy who’s face is… well, whose face has character.
So imagine our surprise when Deadline reported that Jerry O’Connell has been cast as Herman, the handsome and gangly father to ten-year-old Eddie, who will be played by Mason Cook. A handsome Herman Munster. If anything is going to help convince us, before the pilot, that this is NOT your 1960s The Munsters, it’s that. How will anyone dress up like him at Halloween? But hey, we’re all for more handsome on TV, so okay!
And speaking of attractive people, we’re really hoping that Mariana Klaveno is able to extricate herself from her contract to Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry for his pilot, Devious Maids so that she can accept the part of Lily Munster. When ABC turned down that pilot, Ms. Klaveno was thought to be available for Mockingbird Lane, but now Lifetime has expressed an interest in Devious Maids. According to TV Guide, who broke this story, Lifetime should be making their decision by the end of this week.
If Mariana Klaveno looks familiar, you may be remembering her from the True Blood TV spot we posted yesterday about Maker’s Day; she played Lorena, Bill’s maker in that series, so she already has some experience as a vampire. Come on, Devious Maids, let her go, we need her more than you do!
The Mockingbird Lane pilot is due to begin shooting this summer for NBC. We’ll keep you posted.
