Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the last installment of the Harry Potter films, has not only set a new record for global box office records its opening weekend, but now, it’s contending with other giant summer blockbusters like The Dark Knight, Alice in Wonderland, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
THR reports that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has crossed the $1 billion mark in cumulative global ticket sales, earning a Worldwide tally of $1.009 billion. The best performer of the series thus far is the series opener, 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone with $974.8 million globally.
On premiere night, Deathly Hallows: Part 2 set a box office record for the highest domestic box office receipts opening weekend bringing in $168.8 million and also set the highest global box office with an additional $307 million internationally, bringing the global total on opening weekend to a whopping $476 million.
