HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS Will Hit Theaters With an R-Rating

Back in January, we brought you the news when Paramount Pictures moved the release date for director Tommy Wirkola‘s (Dead Snow) Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters starring Jeremy Renner (The Bourne Legacy, The Avengers) and Gemma Arterton (Wrath of the Titans) almost an entire year.

Now, according to Collider, despite some previous IMDb speculation that the studio was testing a PG-13 version of Wirkola’s film, the site is reporting that “Paramount Pictures is 100% planning on releasing Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters as an R-rated film”.

Synopsis:

In the vein of BLADE, VAN HELSING and KILL BILL, HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS is an edgy action-packed fantasy adventure starring two-time Academy Award Nominee Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton.

Everybody knows the story of the young brother and sister who turned the tables on the witch in the candy house, but what you don’t know is what happened afterwards. HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS is the story of the grown up Hansel and Gretel, and they have some unresolved issues from childhood. The two are now professional bounty hunters, experts at tracking down and killing witches. Showing no mercy, these two now leave a trail of dead witches instead of bread crumbs in their wake.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is slated to hit theaters on January 11th, 2013.
