Guillermo del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM Gets a Summer Release Date, Perfect For Giant Monsters and Mechas

Monsters vs. Mechas? Hell, yeah! There’s been several exciting casting announcements over the last two months for Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi monster movie Pacific Rim by Legendary Pictures. Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), and Idris Elba (Thor) have been cast in the film that follows a group of soldiers trying to save mankind from extinction by manning large robots to battle giant monsters from space.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary Pictures has set a summer release date in 2013 for the film. And you’ve got to know from Del Toro’s past works that he loves his monsters with Oscar-winning Pan’s Labyrinth, Blade II, and Hellboy I and II. Del Toro told Shocktillyoudrop that the giant monsters invading the earth are “huge:”

“This is my most un-modest film, this has everything. The scale is enormous and I’m just a big kid having fun.”

I can’t wait to see the monsters and mech suits Del Toro will design for the film! Just thinking about his monsters makes me giddy. Hey, now stop that gutter-thinking!

Pacific Rim is slated to hit theaters on July 12, 2013.
