We told you last week that rookie NBC series Grimm was given an order for two more episodes. Last night brought even better news: they have received a full-season pickup. As we told you recently with Once Upon a Time, Grimm had originally received the standard half-season order, and like Once it has now received that second half order.
Deadline, who broke the story, also reports that NBC is going to try out a different day and time for the series:
NBC, which opted to keep Grimm in its original low-trafficked Friday 9 PM slot on the recently released midseason schedule, is giving the fairytale procedural a tryout in the Thursday 10 PM slot. A new Grimm episode will air on Thursday Dec. 8, followed by another original in the series’ regular Friday 9 PM berth the following night.
“This series is turning the traditional procedural drama on its head and is attracting a loyal following for us on Friday nights,” NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said. “We love where it’s going creatively and we’re excited to deliver more episodes to our audience.”
Grimm exceeded expectations with its debut, which posted a 2.1 demo rating on Friday airing against Game 7 of the World Series. Season-to-date, it has averaged a 2.3/7 in adults 18-49 and 6.9 million viewers overall in “most current” averages and has improved NBC’s Friday 9 PM time period by 50% in adults 18-49 vs. last year in “live+same day.” Grimm also has proven a big DVR draw, growing 47% in 18-49 in Live+7, more than any new drama this fall. It has become the only freshman NBC drama to get a full-season order, joining comedies Up All Night and Whitney.
Such great news. It’s an entertaining show that adds a terrific – or should it be “fantastic”? – twist to a police procedural, with a likeable cast. Well done, Grimmsters!
Grimm, starring David Giuntoli, Russell Hornsby, and Sasha Roiz, airs Fridays at 9/8c on NBC.
