Green Hornet – Comic-Con ‘09 Coverage

“Green Hornet” goodies from Comic-Con here, including interviews with Seth Rogen, how Cameron Diaz and Nicholas Cage are cast, a look at ‘Black Beauty’, and the question of casting for Kato.

Seth Rogen, “Green Hornet” star and co-writer, gives us the low down about the film at San Diego’s Comic-Con 2009:

At Comic-Con, Seth Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg revealed that Cameron Diaz and Nicholas Cage are involved with “Green Hornet”.  Diaz will be cast as classic character, Lenore Case aka ‘Casey’, Britt Reid’s secretary with a twist- she’ll be oblivious to Green Hornet’s real identity and have a keen love for crime TV which will help Green Hornet plot his early missions.

Director, Michael Gondry (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”) explains:

“The idea is that in the first episode — let’s say that we’re going to do a lot of sequels — in this story, she doesn’t know the identity of The Green Hornet yet.  But I don’t want her to just be there, not doing much. She’s a crime specialist, a big fan of the forensics TV shows [like ‘CSI’] ; there’s a flashback where she surprises her husband by discovering he’s cheating on her. She’s gone through all sorts of forensics evidence to prove that, and then she ends up seeing her husband having sex with his girlfriend in their bedroom. That’s how she starts [in ‘Green Hornet’], and then she goes back to work.”

green-hornet“Basically, Kato and Britt have no idea how to become criminals. They want to be criminals — that’s their way to fight crime — to be criminals themselves. So they ask her what they should do, and she doesn’t know she’s talking to The Green Hornet, but she gives them indications by saying ‘I think the Hornet will do this and this,’ and then they go out and do what she said. Later on, she’ll say ‘See? I was right!’ And that’s the humor of her character.”

“I think there is a very funny trio with Britt, Kato and Lenore.  She likes Kato better, which gets Britt a little mad. There is a good thing forming there in the story.”

Nicholas Cage‘s involvement however is not so solid and looks like may not happen.  According to Goldberg, they “tried to work with some of the villains of the show” and tried to create a villain character for Nicolas Cage, Chudnofsky, a gangster. “But that didn’t work out. Our main things are Britt Reid, Kato and Lenore.”

Who will be cast as Kato now that Stephen Chow is not involved with this production? I have an idea, but you’ll just have to wait and see for that article!

But, what about Green Hornet’s “Black Beauty” you ask? Ask and you shall receive:
