Earlier this week, we brought you news from producer Bernie Goldmann that the 300 prequel will have “small parts” for Gerard Butler and Lena Headey who starred as King Leonidas and Queen Gorgo in the 2006 break-through original. Just as we were delighted to hear that these two will return to this stylized historical land, Butler was pleasantly surprised as well.

During an interview with MTV for his upcoming film Machine Gun Preacher, Butler addressed this news of the 300 prequel:

I have to agree with Butler on having to see a quality script before taking on this 300 prequel to make it a worthwhile experience to pursue. 300 indeed holds its own space in our collective film landscape so I’m glad that he’s not just jumping into this prequel willy-nilly.

300: Battle of Artemisia will be directed by Noam Murro (Smart People).
