Back in September, Lionsgate was trying to decide between three directors to helm the adaptation of the first novel in Suzanne Collins‘ best selling trilogy, The Hunger Games. Directors David Slade (30 Days of Night), Sam Mendes (American Beauty), and Gary Ross (Pleasantville, The Crusaders) were all reportedly in contention at the time.

Now, Variety reports that Gary Ross recently appeared at the American Film Market to promote the big-screen adaptation and confirmed that he has in-fact signed on with Lionsgate to direct the film.
