Back in March of last year, we brought you the news that Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. were developing a new film based on Toho Company‘s GODZILLA, a franchise the Japanese company created over fifty years ago.
Now, THR reports that Monsters‘ director Gareth Edwards has been hired to helm their upcoming Godzilla reboot. Legendary Pictures reportedly sought out the director after seeing Monsters. While David Callaham wrote the initial draft of the Godzilla screenplay, he is no longer attached to the movie. There’s no word whether or not portions of Callaham’s draft will still be a part of the production but, Edwards will be working alongside a new, yet to be hired writer to bring Godzilla to the big screen.
Godzilla is tentatively slated to hit theaters in 2012.
