G.I. Joe 2: Release Date Confirmed; Only Three Characters from the Original To Return

We told you just last week that Paramount Pictures had officially handed the reins of G.I. Joe 2, which starts production this fall to director Jon Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never). Chu will be replacing Stephen Sommers (Airborn, When Worlds Collide) who helmed the first film.

Now, thanks to a message on Twitter from the lovely Rachel Nichols (Conan the Barbarian), who portrayed Shana ‘Scarlett’ O’Hara in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, we now know that in the forthcoming sequel penned by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick is likely to be a few troops short.

The Untitled G.I. Joe Sequel starring Ray Park as Snake Eyes, Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow and Channing Tatum as Captain Duke Hauser is slated to hit theaters on August 10th, 2012.
