Back in February, we told you that producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) had met with several directors to replace Stephen Sommers for the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Just weeks later, the studio has handed the reins of G.I. Joe 2 over to to director Jon Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never), who will direct using a script penned by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Now, Deadline reports that Dwayne Johnson (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Snitch) is in talks to join the cast of the follow-up to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and would portray Roadblock, heavy machine gunner, cook and cousin of Heavy Duty, who was played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje in the first film. In addition, THR reports that French actress, Elodie Yung (Opération Casablanca, District 13: Ultimatum, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) is in talks to join the cast of the film as well. Yung would play Jinx, a ninja with family ties to the clan Arashikage, who was recruited by Snake-Eyes to join the G.I. Joe team.
If you’re thinking “why is a French actress playing a female Ninja?”, check out the video below of Yung during the making of District 13: Ultimatum and decide for yourself if you think she can pull it off, or not.

As we previously reported, Ray Park (Snake Eyes), Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow) and presumably Channing Tatum (Captain Duke Hauser) are so far, the only three returning members of the Joe team from the first film that are attached to the sequel.
The Untitled G.I. Joe Sequel is slated to hit theaters on August 10th, 2012.
