We didn’t have to wait long for more casting news from Paramount’s G.I. Joe sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation did we? Earlier today, we reported to you what we gleaned from the bits of intel leaked about the G.I. Joe sequel directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Zombieland team Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Variety reports that Emmy-nominated Justified star, Walton Goggins (Cowboys and Aliens, The Shield), has joined up with the Joes as Warden Nigel James. This is a new character to the G.I. Joe mythology, but Goggins wouldn’t have signed on for a bit role so this character must be significant in some way.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation stars Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Ray Stevenson, Byung-hun Lee, Walton Goggins, Adrianne Palacki, RZA, D.J. Cotrona, Elodie Young, Joe Mazzello, and Ray Park. The film begins shooting this month in New Orleans.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation is slated to hit theaters on June 29, 2012.
