[Updated] From Hawkeye To Snake – Jeremy Renner To Escape From New York?

Back in June, we brought you an interview with director Breck Eisner (The Crazies) who spoke a bit about his upcoming remake of John Carpenter‘s 1981 film, Escape From New York. The director admitted that he would love Timothy Olyphant (Justified) to star as Snake Plissken, a role made famous by Kurt Russell in the original.

Now, the latest issue of Production Weekly indicates that there is an offer out to Jeremy Renner (The Avengers, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) for the lead role of Snake Plissken in the upcoming remake. The actor has not yet accepted the role and the film set to begin production in the first quarter of 2011.

[Update]

The Wrap reports with “100 percent confidence that no such offer has been extended” to Jeremy Renner for the role of Snake Plissken in the Escape from New York remake.

Escape from New York is slated to hit theaters in 2012.
