From Genius To Savant To Genius: James Callis On His Roles In BSG, FLASHFORWARD, And EUREKA

James Callis, who is best known for his role as Dr. Gaius Baltar in “Battlestar Galactica”, joins the cast of SyFy’s hit show, “Eureka”, this summer. Callis’ character, Dr. Grant, will be very different that the character people most frequently associate him with. Dr. Baltar and Dr. Grant will no doubt share in the brilliance factor and Dr. Grant will certainly make things interesting for Sheriff Carter (Colin Ferguson) when it comes to Allison Blake (Salli Richardson-Whitfield)! Check out this interview with Callis as he reflects on his experience in “BSG” and his move to “Eureka”.

James Callis on BSG and Eureka

Callis was recently back on the small screen in ABC’s “FlashForward” as Gabriel McDow, the savant character mysteriously connected to Olivia Benson (Sonya Walger). His story arc on “FlashForward” was originally to be a longer one, but his commitment to “Eureka” cut his role short. If “FlashForward” is to be renewed for another season, Callis believes that his character could impact the storyline significantly:

“Sooner or later, Gabriel, if he appeared in the second season … I used to say that about Gaius Baltar, that sooner or later, somebody’s going to put a bullet through this man’s head. If you’re going to be treading on too many people’s toes, they’re going to be nervous about you — I’m not talking about the executive producers, but the other characters — and you’re going to get shot through the head. I was kind of expecting that to happen.”
