Unplug your earholes, it’s Frankenweenie Unleashed! Mark your calendars for the September 25th, 2012 release of this fourteen-song soundtrack to Tim Burton’s black and white stop-motion feature film, Frankenweenie that hits theaters on October 5, 2012 just in time for a spookacular Halloween season.
According to THR, the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman, Karen O, Robert Smith, Winona Ryder (who also stars as the voice of Elsa in the film,) Kimbra, Passion Pit, and Neon Trees have contributed songs to Burton’s homage to classic horror films. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Karen O wrote a song called “Strange Love” for Frankenweenie that will play at the closing credits that answers Burton’s request for “an unconventional, unconditional love song:”
“There’s a magic and nostalgia in this film that reminded me of being raised on Tim Burton’s catalog. I was thinking, ‘Oh yeah, this man shaped my artistic sensibility over the past 20 years alongside thousands of other impressionable offbeat youths.’ Tim wanted an unconventional unconditional love song.”
“I went in the direction of exotica and calypso stylistically because it’s quirky, good vibes music of that era and when you throw in a theramin solo it’s a marriage made in heaven. I remember Beetlejuice introducing me to the genius of Harry Belafonte‘s calypso record so I wanted to give a nod to that, too.”

Synopsis:
In Tim Burton’s “Frankenweenie” young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences. A stop-motion animated film, “Frankenweenie” will be filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience. From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.
Frankenweenie is slated to hit theaters on October 5th, 2012.
