Last year’s film adaptation of Frank Miller’s 300 was one of the box office hits of the year and some have wondered if Frank Miller would head back into Spartan territory once again. Miller has been working on a follow-up to 300 since 2007, which he has jokingly referred to as “301”, even though it’s more of a prequel. His story is called XERXES and takes place a decade before the Battle of Thermopylae as depicted in 300 and tells the story of the Battle of Marathon.
Miller says,
It’s the battle of Marathon through my lens. I’ve finished the plot and I’m getting started on the artwork. Every generation returns to ancient Greece because, well, the stories are so damn good. The fact and the myth are inseparable and, believe me, when you go sailing for a while in the Aegean Sea, you start believing in Poseidon.
