Just over a week ago, we brought you the news when Gary Ross, director of the insanely successful big screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ novel, The Hunger Games surprised Lionsgate with the announcement that he would be stepping away from the director’s chair for the sequel, Catching Fire.
Now, Deadline reports that Lionsgate has hired Francis Lawrence (Constantine, I Am Legend) to replace Gary Ross as director of the second installment of The Hunger Games film franchise. Lawrence reportedly beat out Moneyball director, Bennett Miller for the job.
Catching Fire is slated to hit theaters on November 22nd, 2013.
