Fox Developing American Version Of TORCHWOOD, Barrowman May Star

Look out!  Fox is importing the BBC series “Torchwood”.  Wait, take a second and breathe… I know you’re still reeling from the news that SyFy is doing an American version of the BBC’s “Being Human”, but take comfort in the knowledge that show creator Russell T. Davies and the original production team will be on board with this stateside adaptation of the show.  Davies will pen the pilot script for the American “Torchwood”.  Executive producer Julie Gardner and former BBC executive Jane Tranter are part of the team from BBC Worldwide Productions bringing this production together.

Even more exciting is the possibility that John Barrowman (pictured below) who plays the one and only Captain Jack Harkness could star if Fox comes through and orders “Torchwood” to pilot.  Other cast members may also come over (of who is left, I presume, that would be Gwen pictured in the middle of the top image along with her hubby and new baby, Ianto at the right didn’t make it after “Children of Earth”).

[Story Continues Below]

Torchwood” is a spinoff of “Doctor Who”, following former time-traveler, Captain Jack Harkness as he and his “outside the law” team deal with alien activity and artifacts.  “Torchwood”s mini-series, “Children of Earth” this past summer was not only a great piece of sci-fi television programming, but also broke ratings records for BBC America.

The American version of “Torchwood” will “contain a global story line compared to the more localized sensibility of the first two BBC seasons”.

Tranter may attempt to reboot “Doctor Who” for American audiences as departing Doctor, David Tennant stars in the NBC show “Rex Is Not Your Lawyer”.

So what do you think? Will an American version of “Torchwood” with Russell T. Davies and co. work?
